Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 23 through March 29
The D.C. Metro area begins to blossom this week, and there's lots to do to celebrate spring with the family.
Spring has finally arrived, and we're excited to tell you about some of the fun outdoor events the D.C. area and Takoma Park have to offer families in our weekly Grab & Go Kids Planner. If there's an event you think we should highlight in the future, feel free to tell us in the comments.
An area favorite festival begins this weekend! There will be cherry blossoms blooming along the Tidal Basin and breathtaking kites in the sky on the Mall, but there are also some great events going on closer to home that you and the kids may want to try out. Here's what's going on:
• TAKOMA PARK MIDDLE SCHOOL
Where/When: Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Takoma Park Middle School
Why Go: If your kids like books and you like to reduce, reuse and recycle, this used book sale is a fantastic way to spend time together, help the planet and help a local school. You'll also find some bargains on gently used CDs and DVDs.
Pricing: Admission is FREE.

• CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
Where/When: The festivities begin on Saturday and continue through April 10.
Why Go: This is a local favorite festival. There will be a variety of events for the whole family at venues throughout the area. Check out the website for details on events and locations.
Pricing: Most events are FREE.
• CLASS
Where/When: The class will be offered on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Takoma Park. The exact location is only given upon registration.
Why Go: Want to learn an interesting way to get your kids to eat healthier? Fermented foods introduce certain enzymes and "friendly" bacteria into your body. REAL Food Chef Monica Corrado will show you how to make ketchup, apple butter and other kid-friendly foods a little better for the family.
Pricing: $55 per person

• BLOSSOM KITE FESTIVAL
Where/When: Let the wind (or the Metro) carry you over to the National Mall on Sunday. The Blossom Kite Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Can't make it to some of the Cherry Blossom Festival events? This is one you won't want to miss. Enjoy kite-flying competitions, a Rokkaku Battle, watch beautiful kites sail across the sky or bring your own favorite kite and join the fun!

Where/When: Monday at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the Takoma Park D.C. Neighborhood Library.
Why Go: After a fun-filled weekend, you and your pre-schooler will love to sit back, relax and enjoy a children's book-based film.
