Old Takoma Business Association Seeking Artists for Bike Project

Old bike parts will lead residents through a walking tour of Old Takoma.

If you've got some old bike parts and welding tools, the Old Takoma Business Association thinks they could be turned into art.

OTBA is sponsoring a new public art project for the Old Takoma corridor called reCYCLE. The exhibit is designed to highlight the art, bicycling and recycling cultures of Old Takoma, the business association said.

OTBA is seeking local artists/creators/welders or teams to design and build outdoor sculptures using mostly bicycles and spare bicycle parts. The sculptures will be installed along the sidewalks and will create a self-guided, walking tour through Old Takoma. The sculptures will remain in place for four to six months and then be auctioned off to the public, OTBA said.
