Frugal Family: Five Deals to Stretch the Family Budget

We've scoured the neighborhood for deals, so you don't have to.

Welcome back to our weekly rundown of five local deals to help with your family’s bottom line. Since we do the scouting, we save you time as well as money.

This Independence Day week we scoured our local sources and found deals including a free breakfast treat or a free meal (break out the cow-spotted attire!); savings on picnic (and more) needs, office supplies and more. Plus, half-price tickets on a Forth-of-July week outing. Remember to check with the merchant for additional conditions, if any:

2. Holy Cow! Free Meal Day: , 825 Ellsworth Dr., 301-588-2915 (and other locations).

Deal: Break out your cow-spotted attire and wear it in to Chick-fil-A to get a free meal on their annual "Cow Appreciation Day. To celebrate, all locations are awarding a free meal to guests who visit dressed as a cow. Those dressed "head-to-hoof" get an entire meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner); those partially dressed in cow attire (cow-spotted scarf, purse, hat or other accessory) will receive a complimentary entree.

Good through: Available on July 8 only (all day).

Deal: Take 20 percent off on one furniture or supply item, with this coupon.

Deal: Save while stocking up on picnic supplies (or any other item): Take $5 off a $25 purchase with their "Summer Sale" coupon.

Good through: July 6 (hurry!).

5. DC Sightseeing Tours: Open Top Sightseeing, Union Station, 30 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC.

Deal: If you're in search of an historic outing for family, out-of-town guests or the kids this Independence Day week, try a guided tour of our nation's capital and save. Open Top Sightseeing is offering half-price tickets on full-day tours through event site goldstar.com. Guests can hop on-or-off at 30 stops, including monuments, the Smithsonian, Lincoln Memorial, White House, Georgetown, Union Station and more.
