Editor's Note: AOL Acquires Huffington Post

Arianna Huffington will head up content for AOL.

As many of you know, Patch is owned by media giant AOL. Well AOL has bought the Huffington Post. There is no way to tell how this will affect Patch (if it does at all), but AOL CEO Tim Armstrong offered this note:

"We are taking another major step in the comeback of AOL. Today we are announcing that we have agreed to acquire The Huffington Post, one of the most exciting, influential, and fastest growing properties on the Internet.  We believe in brands, quality journalism, and the positive role of communities in the world—The Huffington Post shares our values and the combination of the two companies will create the premier global and local media company on the Internet."

HuffPo founder Arianna Huffington will head up The Huffington Post Media Group, which will encompass content for AOL and Huffington Post. Here is Huffington's word on the acquisition.
