Bites Nearby: Parkway Deli and Restaurant

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Takoma Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice.

Ask deli lovers throughout Montgomery County and The District for their favorite sandwich spot and you are going to hear about the Parkway. In the first breath they will speak longingly of their revered regular order, and in the second they'll undoubtedly, excitedly exclaim, "They've got a pickle bar!"

This down-home diner has been pleasing patrons for over 47 years. But you don't have to enjoy the goods at the tables or booths. The Parkway Deli is also one of the most popular caterers in the area, providing popular smoked fish, bagel and dessert platters for Washington-area home gigs.

(Been to a casual bris lately that served an amazing lox feast? There is a big chance that your mouth was happy on that happy day thanks to the Parkway.)

But you cannot just experience the goods in your procreating friends' living rooms. Because you just have to experience that pickle bar. Never have you seen such an array of vinegared veggies, and there are infinite combos of pickles and sandwiches with the Parkway's extensive menu.

The corned beef and pastrami Reuben, the tuna melt and the Nova platter for two (yes, I do split it!) are worth every single lunge, squat and lap around the high school track. Don't forget the coleslaw, the onion rings and the pickles.

And since you are already a greedy goner, you might as well order a chocolate milkshake. Sure, it contains about a gallon of real ice cream but it does not contain any weird bloaty fillers, so it is almost a health drink, right?
