Bites Nearby: Eatonville

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in, but we've got a better idea. Each week, Takoma Park Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that's worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Eatonville--  Follow me to Washington DC,  Patchniks, follow me to a little bit of N'awlins, a little Southern comfort, here on 14th st. Northwest.

Fried Chicken with Cider-Braised Collard Greens, Extra Sharp Mac-and-Cheese, and a Buttermilk Biscuit; Catfish & Grits; Fried Shrimp & Oyster Po-Boy; after this meal your jeans won't fit and your arteries will weep cholesterol tears, but your soul will sing sweet goodness. And it won't be belting out some auto-tune, ear-assaulting Ke$ha disaster either. Think Marvin Gaye. Think Al Green. Think Miles Davis.

Full disclosure: I'm partial to any eatery that opts to title its drink menu "Libations", rather than "Beer & Wine" (not to get too personal, but I imagine myself as Don Draper at times, and "Libations" fits that oh so well.) That said: I give you my word, I'm not steering you here only to be displeased by greasy, overcooked, bland attempts at soul food. This is the real deal.

Yes, the dining room may be a little too vast for the atmosphere the place tries to create, but the murals adorning the walls make for vibrant, inspiring visuals that accompany the food and drink well.

And oh ya, they offer live jazz to boot. Splendid.
