Week in Review: Crime Stats and Art Galleries

The Takoma Foundation is accepting grant applications.

, Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci released the department's annual crime report after Monday night's Takoma Park City Council meeting. We will break down the report through a series of short articles throughout next, but here are some highlights to get you started.

  • For the year 2010 are the 14.7 percent reduction in crime from 2009.
  • Felony assaults decreased by 42.2 percent.
  • Larceny decreased by 22.6 percent.
  •  Auto thefts decreased by 14.7 percent.
  • The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) closed 39.4% of their cases, which is a 1.8 percent increase from 2009.
  • Burglaries increased 33.9 percent from 2009.

, the Takoma Foundation has $25,000 in grants if you've got a good idea. The Foundation will accept applications for grants from $500 to $2000 until 5 pm March 25 for the spring 2011 grant cycle.

the galleries at the Takoma Park Community Center have changed.  The space now features an Adam Griffiths curated multimedia exhibit called "CYCLES."
