We Are Takoma Goes Communal with Keeping the Kibbutz

The documentary is presented by Docs in Progress and We Are Takoma.

Docs in Progress and We Are Takoma are partnering for a free screening of Keeping the Kibbutz Aug. 9 at 7:30 p.m., at the Takoma Park Community Center.

DC-based filmmakers Tessa Moran and Ben Crosbie made the documentary about how the kibbutz was a movement focused on a communal lifestyle and economy, but often transitioned to a capitalist model that the modern economic climate of Israel demands.

"Keeping the Kibbutz examines the challenges faced by a community in transition from the perspective of some of its most devoted members," according to promotional material about the event. "While some members faced heartbreak, others found new opportunities, and the kibbutz marched toward an inevitable end. This is a story about nostalgia, the effects of communal living and the hope for what lies ahead."
