The next couple weeks before Thanksgiving, there are a lot of great events in Takoma Park. From poetry to music to art, mark these events on your calendar.

Nov. 14 - Hoots and Hellmouth, 4 p.m. at Tree House, on Sycamore Ave. near Elm Ave., BYOB. I actually saw these guys in Philadelphia when I was living there and it really is a some great, hard driving, folk-country revival.

Nov. 17 - The Catholic University Symphony Orchestra, 7:30 p.m., Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7700 Carroll Ave.

Nov. 18 - 7:30 p.m., Third Thursday Poetry Reading featuring the work of Susan Okie, Heather Banks, Freda Denis-Cooper, Stewart Hickman and Madona LeBlanc, Takoma Park Auditorium, 7500 Maple Ave.

Nov. 19 - Closing reception for "RENDERED, drawings by Rita Elsner," 6 p.m., Atrium Gallery, 7500 Maple Ave.
