Takoma's The Dance Exchange Reaches Fundraising Goal

"500 Miles, 500 Stories" project raises more than $10,000.

 

Between April 10 and June 1, 2012, Cassie Meador, artistic director of in an effort to explore the energy sources that power her home in Takoma. The two-month walk also served as a research and development trip for an upcoming dance production entitled How to Lose a Mountain. Meador was accompanied by Matt Mahaney, a long-distance hiker, videographer and adjunct artist of the Dance Exchange.

To offset the costs of supplies, food, transportation, salary support and other miscellaneous expenses, the Dance Exchange set up a Kickstarter-like fundraising website at www.usaprojects.org/project/500miles500stories with a goal of raising $10,000.

On Monday, Meador announced that her group had reached its goal. While fundraising continues through Friday, June 22, the group has already received $10,060 in donations.

The production of How to Lose a Mountain is slated to premiere in spring 2013.
