Sixth Annual Takoma Park Holiday Art Sale To Focus on Community Works

Art Sale will take place on Dec. 10.

Nov. 18 is the last day for artists to apply for a table at the sixth annual Takoma Park Holiday Art Sale, which will take place Dec. 10 in the community center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

About 30 artists will be on hand, selling paintings, jewelry, pottery, textiles and more, said Rob Rudick, the coordinator of the event.

“The quality of our artists last year was our best ever, and we expect to have the same quality this year,” Rudick said.

In the early iterations of the art sale, Rudick said, there was a noticeable difference in quality among some artists. As the event has grown, though, it has become a juried art sale. Rudick sits on that jury — a group of the artists’ peers — which will pre-select this year’s approximately 30 artists. Their works will be displayed throughout the community center.

The deadline for artists to apply for a table is Nov. 18. Applications should be sent to the Arts and Humanities Commission, which sponsors the event. There is no charge to apply.

According to Rudick, public turnout has increased over the sale’s six-year history, though some years have been hurt by inclement weather. He’s confident about this year, though.

“We’re hoping to draw a fairly nice crowd of people who come through and purchase art products for their Christmas gifts; maybe for themselves,” he said.
