You've heard of Joe's Record Paradise, right? It's a Montgomery County staple, started nearly 40 years ago in Takoma Park, now in downtown Silver Spring.
What you may not know is Joe Lee, the store's founder and progeny of two of Maryland's most influential families, was a prep school reject who managed to build a business with serious rock cred—despite the fact that his family had deep political ties.

Record Paradise: The Musical Life of Joe Lee, directed by Michael Streissguth, a documentarian whose other subjects have included late musician Johnny Cash, will play at AFI Silver this Saturday on Record Store Day. (Yes, Record Store Day is April 20. Snicker if you must.)
According to the film's description, Record Paradise promises "rare archival footage, rollicking music and poignant interviews."
