Film Screening of BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS

Docs In Progress is a Silver Spring-based nonprofit arts organization which helps documentary filmmakers through a variety of educational and professional development programs.

The Alumni Spotlight Series features finished documentaries by Docs In Progress alumni and associates screened in their entirety followed by a discussion with the filmmaker(s).

Tonight we will be celebrating International Women's Day with a special screening of BREAKING THROUGH THE CLOUDS: THE FIRST WOMEN'S NATIONAL AIR DERBY. The film chronicles the story of 20 women aviators (of whom Amelia Earhart was only one) who raced across the United States in 1929 over a nine-day span to prove that women could fly.  Facing cultural stereotypes, mechanical failures, navigational challenges and endless chicken dinners in every stop along the way, the women became pioneering legends in aviation.  Following the screening, filmmaker Heather Taylor will answer questions about the content the film, as well as the process of making it.
