National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch for Maryland
Watch for region begins Sunday at midnight. NWS says to expect five inches or more of snow.
The National Weather Service Saturday morning issued a Winter Storm Watch for Maryland and surrounding areas that begins Sunday night. The area includes Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia.
The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from midnight Sunday night through Monday afternoon. The NWS says to expect freezing rain, sleet and snow, followed by five inches or more of snow.
Freezing rain and sleet will likely begin overnight Sunday with snow, with temperatures in the lower 30s overnight Sunday and in the mid to upper 20s Monday. The area could see wind gusts up to 25 MPH.
There is the potential for hazardous travel overnight Sunday from icy roads with roadways becoming snowy on Monday.
The Capital Weather Gang predicts a 70 percent chance of freezing rain Sunday night transitioning to snow after midnight. Expect snow throughout the day Monday, with plummeting temperatures. Tuesday morning is likely to see temps near zero degrees.
Meanwhile Saturday and Sunday, it's the calm before the storm so to speak, with temperatures expected to reach nearly 60 degrees on Sunday.
