Community Corner

Volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of DC!

House Helper

We believe that when you change a child's life, you change a family's, which can change a community, and ultimately the world.

We strive to be part of that change and part of the solution in improving the lives of children and their families by providing programs that strengthen families during their most difficult or challenging times. We continually work to improve and expand our core programs, while also developing new services to address the unique needs of the communities we serve.

Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured child. Often, it can be a long time to be away from home, or to divide a family. And for children facing a serious medical crisis, nothing seems scarier than not having their mom and dad close by for love and support.

Our Ronald McDonald House program provides a "home-away-from-home" that allows families to access specialized medical treatment at little or no cost. Our House is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal, or where they will lay their head at night to rest. We believe that when a child is hospitalized the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.

We don't do it alone. We rely on the generous skills and talents of our volunteers.

Help us provide a comfortable, clean and welcoming home for our families by lending a hand with household chores. Tasks include cleaning and organizing shared areas of the House, restocking supplies, assisting families as needed and being a warm presence in the House. Flexibility and ability to perform whatever tasks are currently necessary a must.

Most volunteers commit to a two-hour or four-hour shift each week.

We’d love to see your smiling face, so contact Dean Caivano at dean@rmhcdc.org to become an integral part of the most important house in DC!
