Capital Accord Chorus Hosts Women’s Barbershop Benefit Concert for Manna Food Center
The award-winning Capital Accord Chorus is hosting a Spring Benefit Concert for Manna Food Center, Sunday, April 1, 2012, from 4-5 p.m.
The event will feature not only the chorus’ a cappella harmony but also that of the area’s leading quartets including Escapade, In Demand, Lustre, Revolution, and Unchained Harmony! It will also serve as a dress rehearsal for the Region 19 Sweet Adelines International women’s a cappella barbershop competition April 21, 2012, in Ocean City, MD.
The event will be held at Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation, 7727 Persimmon Tree Lane, Bethesda, MD 20817. While the concert is free, donations to Manna, including non-perishable food, are requested.
By way of background, the Capital Accord Chorus is a fun-loving women's chorus based in Silver Spring, MD, that performs four-part a cappella harmony jazz, pop, standards, and show tunes. The chorus, which includes 34 women from throughout the DC metropolitan area, rehearses during the school year at Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring. Interested women are welcome to sing with the chorus at a rehearsal to learn more about becoming a member. The number of women joining the chorus increased 100% last year as more and more women decide it’s time to get back to singing!
The chorus won second place in the Small Chorus (30 singers and under) division of the Region 19 competition last April, 2011, ranking 8th of 22 choruses overall. In addition, the chorus tied with the Valley Forge (PA) Chorus for the “Most Improved” chorus award. The quartet Lustre, in which Accordian tenor Kate Morrical sings (and which will be singing at the April 1 concert), won the quartet competition. Region 19 includes choruses and quartets from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
