An evening of dance featuring signature repertory and new works.
On Friday, Nov. 2, and Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. each night, CityDance will present an evening of dance in the CityDance Studio Theater at Strathmore featuring Hubbard Street 2 (HS2) and CityDance Conservatory. The performances will showcase signature repertory from both groups, as well as new works by CityDance Conservatory 2012-2013 Choreographer-in-Residence Robert Priore. This performance marks the second installment of CityDance’s 2012-2013 Professional Artist Series.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring celebrated dance artists, like Hubbard Street 2, to the community. This performance fulfills our primary mission of bringing high-level dance to the DC metro area, while also giving CityDance’s students access to professional artists,” said Alexe Nowakowski, CityDance's executive director.
Prior to the performances, members of the CityDance Conservatory will attend master classes with HS2 at the CityDance Center at Strathmore. The students will learn repertory from the group, which is the second company of the famed Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
This unique, in-depth partnership will allow CityDance to present a high-quality and entertaining performance, while also offering an enriching educational experience for students and audience members alike.
“This concert really celebrates the breadth of CityDance’s residency program, by bringing together talented choreographers whose work exposes the vitality and freshness of our young dance artists,” said Lorraine Spiegler, CityDance Artistic Director, School & Conservatory.
Highlights of the evening’s repertory include HS2’s work by Hubbard Street Resident Choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo, Lickety-Split, a witty piece for three couples to songs by Devendra Banhart; and Recall by choreographer Robyn Mineko Williams, inspired in part by subjective relationships we have with our own pasts, set to Williams’s own mix of music by Chromatics and Chris Menth. CityDance Conservatory will present works by Robert Priore, including going somewhere, getting nowhere and My Heart has Four Corners. Also on the program are choreographer Megan Adelsberger’s I Remember, Christopher K. Morgan’s Brutal Beauty and other works.
