BLOG: A Crime Fighting Tool That Works

Over the past few years, DNA sampling has enabled us to take murderers, rapists and violent criminals off of our streets.

That’s why we’re very grateful and heartened by Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts ruling to resume the use of DNA sampling as a tool for our law enforcement efforts.

In Maryland, we’ve driven down the numbers of homicides, cold cases and rape cases because of our use of DNA—a process that is no more invasive than fingerprinting.

In fact, since 2007, we’ve been able to drive down violent crime by nearly 25%. Working together with law enforcement, we’ve also driven down total crime and violent crime rates to the lowest rates on record.

Our DNA collection law has been a big part of that progress. It’s enabled law enforcement to connect the dots between individuals convicted or arrested of serious crimes and earlier unsolved cases.

We recognize that this ruling is only temporary, but we are encouraged that the Supreme Court will be taking a close look at the Maryland Court of Appeals decision in this case.

There is no more important service that any of us do in Government than protecting our people. We need to use every available tool to fight crime—especially ones that are as effective as DNA sampling.

I think this is a Great program and even though I always seem to complain about the Governor I applaud him and everyone else that banded together to fight for this valuable tool.

If one puts their political affiliations aside and listens to their elected officials, they will understand who are the ones actually doing/saying something productive. There are a lot of them out there on the right that just spew "hot air" and "kaka" all the time. They just don't know when to listen to their constituents and not their party friends. I hate to admit it, but I am a registered republican, but my views tend to be in the middle....I guess I should really be an independent. I vote my conscience, not any particular party.

FYI - primary voting policies are set by the political parties, not by the state. Maryland did have an open primary several years ago.

The primaries are specifically for the party membership to decide which candidate will stand in the general election. You are free NOT to affiliate with any particular party (that is to be an Independant); however as a consequence, you do not have a say in selecting the candidate that either party will send to the general election. Our choices typically come with consequences.

Yes, Lynn but I like the way california did it this year, seems like we'd get more participation.Top two candidates got to go to general election.Maybe if we did thismore local jurisdictions could get better representation. Think about if all candidates spoke what they felt on each issue then we got to take the two highest winners and pick the best.I really think that especially in local politics it would shorten the coat tail effect. Honestly there are to many people to far right for me and I used the Bartenfelder as an example I didn't see any republican that I thought was better qualified and I think MANY democrats are having voters remorse on that election.I know many democrats who didn't see it coming and didn't vote in the primary.

Below is a link for the Dem and Rep primary results in Howard County this year. Total registered voters was 183,759, and of those 35,775 voted in the primary. (19.47%)

I am actually shocked to read a comment in which he mildly praised a Republican, any Republican at all.

The Governor did not tell the whole story here. It's not about DNA, it's about how it was collected and whether it was constitutional of not.

Now experts talk about http://www.coachfactoryonline2013sale.com/ Coach Factory Online the relevance of picking the right shoes because it can affect your overall health. However the only problem is that we choose fashion http://www.louisvuittoncanada2013.ca/ Louis Vuitton Canada over wellness which is never a good idea.
