The day after Thanksgiving’s status as THE shopping day of the year has become so entrenched in the culture that it’s taken on a life of its own. Georgetown (DC) based Havit Advertising has created 5 Shopping Tips to Win the Battle of Black Friday.
HAVIT’S 5 SHOPPING TIPS TO WIN THE BATTLE OF BLACK FRIDAY :
Baby, It’s Cold Outside:
But so warm inside. Dress in layers but resist taking a coat.Carrying it will only slow you down. Plus. hands-free means more opportunity to snatch up more doorbuster items. When you start to whimper from shivering and waiting too long in line outside, man up! It’s only for a couple of hours. And it’s for a good cause—like that $50 Nikon Coolpix!
Make a List, Check It Twice:
And cross off anyone who’s not worth your time or money on Black Friday. Focus and be selective. You’ll run out of time if you try to get everyone in your life something. So think: who’s been naughty, who’s been nice…and then choose the group you like better.
You’re No Amateur:
So don’t act like one. Only the unprepared will roam around the aisles aimlessly clogging foot traffic. Peruse the ads beforehand and know where you want to go and in what order. Only the novice leave Black Friday to chance…and empty-handed.
Sole Mate:
The most crucial factor that will determine your Black Friday fate: comfortable shoes. Your getup needs to let you maneuver like a ninja—lightning fast and furious. After a day of shopping, the weak get tuckered out; with the right shoes, you will not.
Don’t Take It Personally:
No matter how much you prepare, you’re going to find those pushy and rude shoppers that swarm for the same item. You’ll be running on no sleep, so the chances of you getting emotional are at an all-time high. Don’t, even if you lose out. After all, it’s only a TV. A 50 percent-off 3D 1080i HDTV, but a TV nonetheless.
And when all else fails, know that Cyber Monday is just around the corner.

Here's a tip. Don't go. Stop the madness and buy gifts that actually mean something and not just more crap that nobody really needs. Buy local, make donations on peoples behalf, give a gift of a family outing, etc.

Even though Black Friday is over, the shopping frenzy will continue through December I'm sure. I'm with you Jim, thoughtful gifts surpass someone buying you the latest gadget -- you know the one that they really wanted.
