Tornado Watch Issued for Montgomery County Wednesday Night

The National Weather Service stated that the tornado watch would be effective until 2 a.m. on Jan. 31.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Montgomery County shortly before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The NWS stated that the tornado watch would be effective until 2 a.m. on Jan. 31.

"Tornadoes can form from severe thunderstorms with little or no advanced warning," according to a county email alert.

"Know your safe room in your home, at school and at work. Do not use highway overpasses as shelters. Remain alert for the issuance of warnings," the email alert continued.

Weather forecasters predicted unusual weather for Wednesday night in Montgomery County.

A flash flood watch was announced for the county and the Washington, DC, region starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday "through late tonight," according to a NWS alert sent on Wednesday afternoon.

"A flash flood watch means that 'conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding,' according to the NWS. The NWS predicts one to one-and-a-half inches of rainfall in a short period of time," Patch reported on Wednesday afternoon.
