Takoma Park Police Officer Remembers Shooting

There were 18 cases in the Washington area where officers killed suspects in 2011.

The Takoma Park Police officer who shot and killed a hostage taker over a year ago is still haunted by the shooting, according to a story in the Washington Post.

During the Jan. 28, 2011 Capital One Bank robbery, a bank teller slipped a dye pack into the bag the suspect was using to transport money. When the suspect left the bank with the female hostage, the dye pack exploded. This gave the hostage time to run. The suspect ran after her, with the gun pointed at her. The suspect slipped and police shot at him. The suspect did not get off any shots and died at the scene.

The Post story, which is about how officers deal with shooting suspects, said there were 18 cases in which officers killed suspects in 2011 in the Washington metro region. There were only four in 2011.
