Takoma Park Basketball Legend Dedicates Park
The park includes a basketball court and a skatepark.
Takoma Park native and former NBA All-Star Steve Francis opened the newly renovated Takoma-Piney Branch Park Sunday.
Francis donated $70,000 for improvements to the park including:
- A refurbished basketball court featuring a color-coated surface and six new basketball goals, enabling half-court play;
- Two new playgrounds;
- A new skateboard park,
- A new picnic pavilion; and
- “Takoma Trees,”—sculptures at both entrances to the park, created by local artist Judy Sutton Moore, with support from the Montgomery County Arts and Humanities Council
Tell us how you plan to use the park this summer.

Very true Steve. And though he went to Blair High School, I was told by the current Blair coach that he didn't play basketball there at all.

The proverbial question is: was he born IN Takoma Park? I believe he was...

Rise up, Takoma Parkers! In today's Wash. Post (page C4), Fritz Hahn says Takoma "is blah for food (and especially) drinks" and suggests going to Silver Spring instead.
Now, he's entitled to his opinion (I think), but given his direct attack on the food and drink purveyors in our fair city, what course of action should we take?
We could craft some amusing rejoinders for t-shirts -- say, "Fritz Hahn is blah for writing (and especially) for originality." Or, "Yeah, sure, Fritz, but at least our food is nuclear-free!"
Or, our city council, led by Fred "Call me Firebrand" Schultz, could (1) cancel any existing subscriptions to The Washington Post; (2) pass a resolution declaring that Fritz Hahn is an enemy of the People's Republic and no city employee shall cooperate with him, or with anyone from that overpriced rag, in any way, shape or form, or (3) dump thousands of copies of the Post, Express, and (Post-owned) Gazette at the doors of the Post building, and picket the offices, preferably with bullhorns and dancing accompanied by finger cymbals.
But probably the most gracious, turn-the-other-cheek option .... Owners of local eating and drinking establishments (Cap City Cheesecake, Mark's, Roscoe's, Middle East/Olive Lounge, Takoma Bistro, Summer Delights, Cedar Crossing, even Soupergirl) could invite Mr. Hahn to partake of their culinary masterpieces so as to convince him that, darn it, we're not blah. Seriously, we're better than blah -- much, much better.

Will the Takoma Park City Council make the city a Fritz Hahn Free Zone?

Hmmmm. Very good question. Is that legal?
