Suspect Arrested in Takoma Park Armed Robbery of Elderly Woman

Linda McCorkle was arrested in the New York area Jan. 19.

The suspect accused of robbing an 84-year-old woman in Takoma Park is in custody, according to a Prince George's County news release.

Prince George's County Police received a tip that Linda McCorkle, who is charged with luring the woman to the Bank of America on New Hampshire on Jan. 12 and then robbing the woman of her savings, fled to the New York/New Jersey area, police said.

The U.S. Marshals Service and Prince George's County Sheriff's Office conducted a joint investigation and then arrested McCorkle.

According to police reports, McCorkle approached the 84-year-old woman at Murry's Steaks on New Hampshire Ave in Takoma Park. She told the victim she needed help cashing a check and that her children hadn't eaten in days. The victim agreed to drive her to a Bank of America on New Hampshire Avenue, police said.

Once in the car, the suspect told the victim she had a gun and threatened her if she didn't withdraw several thousand dollars.

McCorkle is currently being extradited back to Prince George's County.
