I celebrated Earth Day 1970 by going with three friends, two of us in a bug-eye Sprite and two in British Austin Healey with spoked wheels, to Skyline Drive in WV. A sense of freedom, the sports cars hugging the curves, the tops down, snaking our way through the beautiful forest. Air crisp. Graduation only weeks away.
Thanks to Sen. Gaylor Nelson, the father of my sister's best friend, who was Earth Day's founder.
