Speak Out: What Rules Guide Family TV Time?

Dora The Explorer or Mad Men? What's right for your family?

As thousands across the country start the countdown for favorite shows to start up new seasons, parents may be looking to refresh household rules guiding children’s television use.

TV Watch, a nonprofit advocating for parental control over government control of family television use, estimates that 72 percent of American households have rules about TV use for kids. The group recommends that parents take a few minutes to review fall TV schedules and television show ratings, which range from a Y-rating (recommended for younger audiences) to MA (mature adults only).

What sort of rules do you have to guide your child’s TV experience? From Dora The Explorer to Mad Men and Breaking Bad, what are your family’s favorite shows?
