Police Confirm Shooting On Victory Lane In Potomac

POTOMAC — Police believe that Sunday's shooting on Victory Lane in Potomac was not a random event. "Detectives spoke with the victim today and believe that the victim was targeted," Montgomery County police said.

Chick-fil-A Turns Kentlands Parking Lot Into Camp Site

GAITHERSBURG — Participants came from near and far hoping to claim the grand prize of free Chick-fil-A for a year, 100 raffle winners and their guests camped out at the new Chick-fil-A in Kentlands Market Square's parking lot from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Gay Rights Groups Push Their Fliers at Schools

ROCKVILLE — Gay rights groups are distributing fliers in county schools this week to show support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students after an organization distributed fliers saying that people can choose not to be gay.

GERMANTOWN — A 20-year-old male was shot but was not seriously injured following a shooting Wednesday night at Brandermill Drive and Drumcastle Terrace.

BETHESDA — Harris Teeter may be the grocery tenant at a planned mixed-used development at Wisconsin Avenue and Battery Lane, though developers and the grocery chain haven't confirmed the plan.

NFL Player Visits His Old Middle School

GERMANTOWN — Andre Smith may be lithe on the gridiron, but on Thursday, the Chicago Bears tight end found himself cornered by middle schoolers eager for his autograph — after all he used to be a Panther, just like them. Smith spoke and signed autographs at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, where he attended from 2000-02, according to school staff. Smith talked about how the death of his mother inspired him to take his education seriously and encouraged students to work hard.

Pedestrian Struck by Train

GAITHERSBURG — A man was struck by a train near Oakmont Avenue on Friday morning. He was transported to the hospital and suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Springbrook Students' Game Design Ranks in National Tech Contest

COLESVILLE — Four computer science students at Springbrook High School were the only high school team to make it to Microsoft Imagine Cup's national finals. Now the young men, who designed a Japanese earthquake-themed game, are re-tooling their submission in hopes of making it to the global competition in Sydney, Australia.
