Convicted Sligo Creek Rapist Gets 20 Years

Luis Rivera was sentenced Friday in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

The man who pled guilty to the 2009 rape of a jogger in Takoma Park was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday, WUSA reports.

Luis Rivera was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court, where he entered his plea on Jan. 27.

According to Takoma Park Police, the incident took place on Nov. 19, 2009 along the Sligo Creek Stream Valley Trail. Rivera reportedly grabbed the victim as she was jogging and forced her into a wooded area between Maple Avenue and the Carroll Avenue Bridge, where he sexually assaulted her.

Rivera is already serving a life sentence for a rape that occurred on Nov. 13, 2009 in Prince George's County. The prison term handed down Friday is set to run consecutively with his current sentence.
