This year’s leaf collection begins in Nov. 19.

Takoma Park City officials advise that resident keep their yard trimmings out of the landfill.

“[It] saves valuable space and allows nature to reduce yard debris into basic organic material.”

Every year 30 percent of Takoma Park's solid waste, about 2,000 tons, includes leaves, branches and grass.

The leaf collection goes from Nov. 19 through Dec. 21.

The city will provide a vacuum collection. To have your leave collected residents must rake their leaves to curb.

For any other pieces of debris that need to be recycled  including branches, brush, sticks and vines.

The city says those items must be “tied in small bundles or placed in cans or paper bags.”

Branches and sticks have to be 4-feet-long and can exceed 3-inches thick.
