A 30-year-veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department has been tapped to head up the Takoma Park Police Department, according to Takoma Park City Manager Barbara Matthews.

After a search that led to 75 candidates, Alan M. Goldberg was chosen to start Oct. 1.

Goldberg retired in November 2011 as a duty commander for the field services bureau of the Montgomery County Police Department.

He also served as commander of the 6th District station, director of the records division and deputy commander of the 3rd District station.
