The National Weather Service is reporting that showers and thunderstorms could develop Wednesday along a front expected to bring cooler weather to the region.

The chance of rain and thunderstorms in Montgomery and Prince George's counties is for after 2 p.m. -- bad news for the Montgomery County Fair, which is in high gear.

Severe storms passed through Harford and Baltimore counties Tuesday night, bringing lightning, hail, high winds and tornado warnings. Baltimore County police confirmed at least one storm-related fire, caused by a lightning strike, in the Parkville area. There were no injuries.

But the forecast is looking up in this part of Maryland, especially for the weekend, according to the NWS:

• Today -- A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Tonight -- Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Northwest wind around 6 mph.
• Thursday -- Sunny, with a high near 89. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.
• Thursday Night -- Mostly clear, with a low around 69. Light south wind.
• Friday -- A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Friday Night -- A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Saturday -- Partly sunny, with a high near 80.
• Saturday Night -- Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.
• Sunday -- Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.
• Sunday Night -- Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.
