Buses Replace Metro Trains on Red Line Segment

Buses will replace trains between Fort Totten and Union Station on the Metro this weekend.

Free shuttle buses will replace trains this weekend between Fort Totten and Union Station, according to Metro's website.

The Red Line closure—from 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, through closing on Sunday, Aug. 5—will "allow for tie and insulator renewal, structural work, fiber optic cable installation and DDOT bridge work near NoMa-Gallaudet U station," Metro reported on its website.

Red Line trains will run in two segments—between Glenmont and Fort Totten, and between Union Station and Shady Grove—all weekend, "every 10 minutes during daytime hours and at regular weekend intervals at other times," Metro added.

"Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Fort Totten and Union Station. Three stations—Brookland, Rhode Island Ave and NoMa-Gallaudet U—will be closed."

Metro will operate express buses between Fort Totten and Union Station. Add on 20 minutes to your travel time if taking an express bus.

Local buses will also operate between these two stations, making stops at the closed stations. Add on 30 minutes to your travel time if taking a local bus.

"The last train from Glenmont will depart 33 minutes earlier than normal—at 2:04 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and at 11:04 p.m. on Sunday night—to allow for shuttle bus connections," Metro added.
