Blair Takes First in County Envirothon

The team will represent Montgomery County in the state competition.

Four teams from Montgomery Blair High School demolished the competition in the 2012 Montgomery County Envirothon.

Teams from Blair took first, second, third and fifth place among 22 teams at the event, which was held at the Montgomery County Agriculture History Farm Park. The first place winners from Blair will represent the county in the 2012 Maryland Envirothon Competition June 20-21 at St. James High School.

In the 22-year history of the state competition, Blair has had multiple first place teams and has previously finished as one of the top five teams in the country, according to a news release.

Members of the first place team included Sharon Chen and Kiran Matharu of Potomac, Vivienne Chen and Lisha Ruan of Rockville and Tatyana Gubin of Gaithersburg. All team members are juniors at Blair.

The competition includes identifying and categorizing plants and animals, performing soil surveys, estimating wood yield from trees and resolving natural resource issues.
