United Way of the National Capital Area (United Way NCA) is pleased to announce its newly elected members for its board of directors. The members include Jim Dinegar, Greater Washington Board of Trade; Anthony Pica, Capital One Bank; Elise Shutzer, Dewey Square Group; and Paul Thornell, Citigroup.
“It is our privilege to have such notable individuals join our board of directors,” said Bill Hanbury, president and CEO, United Way NCA. “Each one has shown a strong sense of commitment to this region and to helping the United Way and its member nonprofits address the critical needs of the Washington community.”
As president and CEO of the Greater Washington Board of
Trade, since July 2006, Mr. Dinegar oversees the leading regional organization representing the business interests for major companies throughout Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia and Suburban Maryland. Before coming to the Board of Trade, he served as chief operating officer of the American Institute for Architects (AIA). Mr. Dinegar is a 34-year resident of the Greater Washington region. He is a graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Tony Pica is Capital One Bank’s Market President for Northern Virginia. He also serves as Senior Vice President and Group Executive for Business Banking in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Tony joined Capital One Bank in 2008, bringing more than 21 years of banking and management experience. Tony earned a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1985 and a bachelor’s degree from Queens College, CUNY in 1978.
Elise Shutzer is a national government affairs campaign manager and grassroots strategist for the Dewey Square Group (DSG), one of the country’s leading public affairs firms. At DSG, Ms. Shutzer develops and oversees trategy for national grassroots, grasstops and coalition building campaigns. She is a native of Swampscott, MA, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a
double major in Diplomatic History and International Political Science.
Paul Thornell serves as Managing Director, Federal Government Affairs in the Global Government Affairs office of Citigroup. Prior to joining Citigroup, he served as
Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Field Leadership at United Way of America. Mr. Thornell also served from
1998 to 2001 at the White House as Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs for Vice President Al Gore. Mr. Thornell was raised in Washington, DC and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Dinegar, Mr. Pica, Ms. Shutzer and Mr. Thornell join the United NCA 2012-2013 board that currently includes:
